Leaf Collection & Composting Program

The Township Public Works Department does its best to service each residential street at least once per week, weather permitting. 

Residents are asked to pile their leaves curbside - LEAVES ARE NOT TO BE BAGGED.

COMPOST PROGRAM: 

The Whitemarsh Township Public Works Department collects an average of 2,000 tons (or about 8,000 cubic yards) of leaves each year through the Curbside Leaf Pick-Up Program. Once the leaves are collected, the public works crew run the leaves through the tub grinder and then set them in windrows at the Township Public Works facility.

In about a year's time, the ground up leaves become a viable product called leaf compost. Once the leaf compost has reached its completion stage, the compost is then delivered to the residents of the township for a nominal fee.

Over the years, the leaf composting program has grown popular with the Township residents. In response to the demand, the staff at the Public Works Department have worked to time the composting process just right so that by the time spring arrives, they can haul the finished product for the residents to use for their spring gardening, making room for the next season.

LEAF MULCH IS AVAILABLE THE 3RD WEEK OF MARCH - WEATHER PERMITTING.

The Township charges $45 per 3 yards of leaf compost and $60 per 3 yards for wood mulch. The Township Public Works Department delivers compost orders starting at a minimum of 3 yards per order. Delivery is scheduled for Fridays.  Orders for Friday delivery MUST be placed by 10 AM on Thursday.

Residents who would like to order delivery of compost must place the order in person at the Township Building and pay by cash, check, or credit card (fees apply for credit and debit cards).  Residents may call 610-825-3535 with questions.  Select "0" to speak with the operator.
